Purchased: 2022

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)

History: (C. Muñecas) A single sample was found by a nomad in a location in Niger of undisclosed coordinates. The meteorite was eventually purchased by Carlos Muñecas (Expometeoritos) from a dealer in Mauritania.

Physical characteristics: A dark-brown, wind-ablated fusion crust covers approximately half of the sample. The cut face shows the interior is composed of abundant well-formed chondrules.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows chondritic texture composed of close-packed, unequilibrated chondrules (avg. apparent diameter 677 μm, n=107) surrounded by fine-grained, opaque, FeO-rich matrix. Some chondrules show clear isotropic glass. Additional minerals: silica polymorph.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine (Fa14.5±11.0, Fe/Mn=50.8±19.5, Cr2O3=0.17±0.18, n=26); matrix (Fa56.1-64.3, Fe/Mn=87.7-109.2, n=2); low Ca pyroxene (Fs9.0±7.3Wo0.8±0.9, Fe/Mn=21.6±17.9, n=15); pigeonite (Fs14.6Wo7.8, Fe/Mn=35.4, n=1).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3 C-S1 W2) Based on textures, unequilibrated compositions of olivine and pyroxene, chondrule diameters and magnetic susceptibility, sample is an LL3. Mean and standard deviation of Cr2O3 in olivine Fa>2 indicates sample may be ?3.15. CL signatures (rare yellow mesostasis, presence of red CL in olivine and common blue mesostasis) indicate LL3.2-3.4.

Specimens: Carlos Muñecas (Expometeoritos) holds the main mass. A 20.6 g type specimen and polished thin section are on deposit at App.
