Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13724 (NWA 13724) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CR2) Physical characteristics: Brown stone. Cut face reveals a brown interior with large chondrules and metal. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with large chondrules (apparent average diameter 1200±250 µm, n=14) set in an abundant fine-grained, iron-rich matrix. Abundant metal as large blebs decorating chondrules. Sulfides are present in the matrix. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa1.7±0.5, range Fa0.8-2.6, Cr2O3 0.55±0.15, n=9. Low-Ca pyroxene Fs2.3Wo0.8 (n=1). Defocused analyses of the matrix FeO = 39.7±3.3 wt%, analytical total 83.7±1.5 wt% (n=3). The low analytical total reveals the presence of hydrous phases in the matrix. Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CR2) Specimens: Type speciment at CEREGE. Main mass with Labenne | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
