Writeup from MB 111:

Majes 005        16°31.85’S, 72°21.81’W

Arequipa, Peru

Find: 20 Oct 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

Petrography: The meteorite is composed of chondrules (average diameter 800 µm), chondrule fragments and mineral grains joined together by minor fine-grained clastic matrix impregnated by iron hydroxide. The chondrules are of the BO, PO, PP, BP, POP and minor CC types. The chondrule mesostasis is mostly isotropic glass. Fe,Ni metal is almost completely replaced by the terrestrial hydroxides. locally, replacement of olivine by oxides and clay minerals occurs around fractures. Olivine has mostly sharp optical extinction and irregular fractures, some grains have undulatory extinction.

Geochemistry: Fa PMD is 15.8%.
