Northwest Africa 12786 (NWA 12786) Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4, melt breccia) History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Fayssal Mezgouri in Agadir, Morocco, Nov 2018. Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) one 422 g gray, flat stone Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) meteorite show two lithologies: a) recrystallized matrix with chondrules of 0.2-1.5 mm (POP, PP, RP), metal and sulfide grains; and b) recrystallized fine grained (~50 µm) melt. Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa24.2±0.9 (n=13); pyroxene Fs20.2±6.2Wo1.5±0.2 (n=7); chromite CRAL87, FFM88; Cl-apatite and merrillite. Kamacite Ni=3.6-6.4, Co=0.8-1.0 (n=3); taenite Ni=30-33, Co=0.3 (n=4) (all wt%); troilite. Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.57. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4-melt breccia, W2) Specimens: 21.9 g at Kiel on deposit, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass and 53 g with Bart. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
