Writeup from MB 109:

Northwest Africa 13475 (NWA 13475)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 May

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5, melt breccia)

History: Purchased by John Higgins in May 2019 from a Mauritanian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia consisting of equilibrated Type 5 clasts (largely recrystallized with sparse chondrules) set in a sparse fine grained matrix (~10 vol.%), portions of which exhibit melt textures (notably tiny sulfide-metal composite spherules). Accessory phases include albitic plagioclase, troilite, kamacite, taenite, low-Ti chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.7±0.5, range Fa23.9-25.2, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.1±0.21Wo1.5±0.3, range Fs21.0-21.3Wo1.0-1.7, N = 5), clinopyroxene (Fs8.8±2.3Wo44.3±1.6, range Fs6.9-8.2Wo44.5-45.8, N = 2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5 melt breccia).

Specimens: 164 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr.J. Higgins.
