Northwest Africa 13709 (NWA 13709)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: September 2020

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L, melt rock)

Physical characteristics: A single dark stone. Cut face reveals a dark homogeneous interior with mm-sized round composite metal-sulfide grains.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Igneous rock with granular texture. Main minerals are olivine and pyroxene (~40 µm), and plagioclase (~20 µm). Metal and troilite are present as 50 µm interstitial grains, µm-size blebs within silicates, and composite metal/troilite spheres up to 2 mm in size.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa25.2±1.8, CaO=0.18 wt% (n=3). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs19.5Wo2.6 (n=2).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L-melt rock).

Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz.
