Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14171 (NWA 14171) Niger Purchased: 2020 Feb Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L, melt rock) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in February 2020 from a dealer in Niger. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Extremely fine-grained assemblage consisting mainly of silicate minerals plus dispersed aggregates of metal+troilite spheres. Some isolated larger silicate mineral grains and a few faint relict chondrules are also present. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa23.5±1.0, range Fa21.9-24.2, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs18.6±2.8Wo1.8±0.5, range Fs14.4-21.5Wo1.1-2.5, N = 7). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L-melt rock). Specimens: 30.5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
