Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14343 (NWA 14343) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2020 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL6, melt breccia) History: Purchased from a Moroccan meteorite dealer in August 2020. Physical characteristics: Single stone, no fusion crust, saw-cut slice reveals a fragmental breccia composed of clasts set in a matrix of dark-colored quenched shock melt with cataclastic fine grained material mixed throughout. Petrography: (C. Agee, A. Ross, UNM) Reflected light microscopy shows numerous texturally equilibrated clasts of type 6 ordinary chondrite material. Plagioclase grains are up to 150 microns in size. Ubiquitous minor troilite was detected with the electron microprobe. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, UNM) Olivine Fa31.6±0.2, Fe/Mn=63±2, n=7; low-Ca pyroxene Fs25.5±0.4Wo1.6±0.3, Fe/Mn=39±2, n=7. Classification: LL6-melt breccia Specimens: 32.9 g on deposit at UNM, Larry Atkins holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
