Northwest Africa 13449 (NWA 13449) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) History: A batch of 6 identical-appearing stones was purchased by Nicholas Gessler in 2019 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Sparse separated, magnetite-bearing chondrules are set in a matrix containing Cr-magnetite and calcic plagioclase. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa33.3±0.3, range Fa33.0-33.5, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs25.5±1.8Wo3.2±0.6, range Fs24.2-26.8Wo2.6-3.7, N = 2), augite (Fs11.2±1.0Wo48.8±1.1, range Fs10.5-11.9Wo48.0-49.5, N = 2), plagioclase (An35.0Or4.4; An81.5Or0.4; N = 2), magnetite (Cr2O3 = 4.6 wt.%, 4.7 wt.%, N = 2). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5). Specimens: 20.4 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. N. Gessler. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
