Writeup from MB 110:

Northwest Africa 13747 (NWA 13747)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2020 Jul

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5)

History: Pieces of different weights were purchased from a meteorite collector by Aziz Zad in the city of Ouargla, southeast Algeria, in July 2020.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark-brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Specimen is composed of few chondrules (850±100 µm, n=5) set in a fine-grained matrix containing predominant ferroan olivine, secondary recrystallized feldspar (30±10 µm), Cr-rich magnetite, pentlandite, and pyrrhotite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa34.0±0.4, range Fa33.3-35.2, NiO wt%=0.6±0.1, n=42), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs10.1±0.7Wo46.3±0.5, range Fs9.5-11.4Wo45.6-46.9, n=9), Magnetite (Cr2O3 wt%=6.1±0.6, n=4).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5). Based on texture and mineral compositions sample is a CK chondrite. Secondary recrystallized plagioclase size indicates petrologic type 5.

Specimens: 20.2 g at UCLA, main mass with Aziz Zad.
