Northwest Africa 4414 (NWA 4414)

Purchased: 2006 Jan

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: Purchased by Greg Hupe in January 2006 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU; T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU) Relatively large, well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 1110±860 µm, N = 24; some with concentric rims) and irregularly shaped, fine-grained CAI are set in a finer grained matrix (~25 vol.%, red-brown in thin section).

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa14.7±23.6 (range Fa2.2-62.7, N = 6); orthopyroxene, Fs0.7±0.4Wo1.0±0.2 (range Fs0.2-1.0Wo0.7-1.1, N = 3).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3).

Specimens: 22.7 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with GHupé.
