Grove Mountains 023154 (GRV 023154) 72° 46' 25"S, 75° 20' 19"E Antarctica Found: 22 January 2003 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: The meteorite was found on the Moraine IV in Grove Mountains by B. Miao. It is an irregularly shaped fragment. Small light gray chondrules in dark matrix are present. The meteorite weighs 1.2 g. Petrography: (G. Wang and D. Wang, GIGCAS). Chondrules range from 100 μm to 1 mm in size. Almost all chondrules have accretionary rims, and chondrule/matrix ratio is about 4. Aqueous alteration is developed in rim both chondrules and pyroxene. Geochemistry: (G. Wang and D. Wang, GIGCAS). Low Ca-pyroxene contains low FeO (Fs1.1-1.9Wo0.5-1.2), olivine is highly heterogeneous in composition within and among chondrules, with Fa = 1.6-54.1 mol%. Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: All of the sample mass and a polished thin section are on deposit at PRIC. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
