Ramlat as Sahmah 531 (RaS 531) 20°10.568’N, 56°29.191’E Al Wusta, Oman Find: 2014 Nov Classification: CV3.4 History: A fractured single stone was found as numerous specimens on an about 4 m2 area by an anonymous finder. Petrography: Chondrite with well defined chondrules and CAIs set in an abundant fine grained iron-rich matrix (48 vol% by point counting, n=266). Chondrule average apparent diameter 690±360 μm (n=39). Opaques are mostly magnetite and sulfides. Based on the structural order of the polyaromatic matter assessed by Raman spectroscopy (L. Bonal, IPAG), this meteorite appears to be slightly less metamorphosed than Chainpur (type 3.4). The Raman spectroscopy parameters of interest are FWHM-D (cm-1)=158.0±23.9, ID/IG=1.02±0.05, N=6 (see Bonal et al. 2016, figure 6). Geochemistry: Olivine Fa9.9±6.6, range Fa3.9-22.4, Fa PMD 52% (n=5). Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.14±0.09 wt% (n=5). Orthopyroxene Fs2.2±0.2Wo2.4±1.7 (n=3). Defocused matrix analyses: FeO 28.1 wt%, total 100.0 wt%. Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3.4). Oxidized subgroup. Subtype from Raman spectroscopy. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE.
