Writeup from MB 108:
Northwest Africa 12443 (NWA 12443) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2018 Jul Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Found by Mohamed Zergou about 26 km E of Tantan on July 25, 2018, and purchased by Mbark Arjdal. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Well-formed granular chondrules (apparent diameter 940±480 µm, N = 23) plus amoeboid fine grained CAI (one composed of wollastonite+andradite+corundum) are set in a very fine-grained matrix (~40 volume%, black in thin section). XRD of a powdered sample show the absence of phyllosilicates. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa26.6±25.5 (range Fa0.9-51.8), N = 3), enstatite (Fs1.4±0.1Wo2.3±2.1 (range Fs1.4-1.5Wo0.8-3.8), N = 2), diopside (Fs1.0Wo37.8). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: 16.9 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
