Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 13881 (NWA 13881) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2019 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Bought from Mohamed Elguirah in 2019 in Guelmim by Jean Redelsperger. Physical characteristics: Several dark fragments without fusion crust. The largest fragment weighs 660 g. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with large chondrules (average apparent diameter 1020±530 µm (n=15) and CAIs (to mm) set in a fine-grained, iron-rich abundant matrix (57 vol% by point counting, n=472). Almost all original opaque minerals, except magnetite, are replaced by terrestrial weathering products. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa3.6±2.1, range Fa1.6-6.9 (n=5). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs6.0±3.2Wo1.8±0.6 (n=3). Analytical total of matrix defocused analysis: 93.0 wt% (n=1) Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). The strong weathering makes it difficult to ascribe this CV chondrite into the oxidized or reduced subgroup. Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Jean Redelsperger. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
