Ramlat Fasad 543 18°57.760’NN, 53°22.765’EE Zufar, Oman Find: 2017 Feb 02 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Single dark brown fragment, no fusion crust preserved. Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) Chondrules and CAIs in dark-brown matrix. Brown glassy mesostasis in few chondrules, commonly partially recrystallized. Typical size of chondrules 0.5-2 mm. Matrix and chondrule rims contain metal (up to 200 μm), troilite, magnetite. Metal is largely altered. Low shock (S2), medium weathering. Geochemistry: (J. Pape) Olivine Fa2.7±2.4, range Fa0.3-7.9 (N=26). Orthopyroxene Fs1.1±0.3Wo1.4±0.9 (N = 11), Ca-rich pyroxene Fs1.1±0.6Wo38.5±3.4 (N=6). Classification: Based on chondrule size, texture and mineralogy this is a carbonaceous chondrite, type CV3, medium weathering, low shock. Specimens: 1.56 g and one polished thin section at NMBE.
