Ramlat Fasad 545 19°03.415’N, 53°36.248’E Zufar, Oman Find: 2017 Feb 08 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Single rounded black individual with crackled surface, strongly wind-ablated, no fusion crust. Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) Chondrules and CAIs in matrix rich in magnetite-FeS-nodules, some with pentlandite. Typical size of chondrules 0.2-1.0 mm. Rare iron metal blebs in chondrule rims and in matrix. Unshocked (S1). Medium weathering. Geochemistry: (J. Pape) Olivine Fa15.1±18.3, range Fa0.2-59.6 (N=25). Orthopyroxene Fs1.4±1.6, range 0.4-4.6Wo2.2±1.5, range 0.9-4.6 (N = 11), Ca-rich pyroxene Fs2.2±2.7Wo44.7±8.2 (N=5). Classification: Based on chondrule size, texture and mineralogy this is a carbonaceous chondrite, type CV3, unshocked, medium weathering. Specimens: 0.589 g and one polished thin section at NMBE.
