Northwest Africa 13948 (NWA 13948) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: March, 2021 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Acapulcoite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in early March, 2021. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a protogranular texture of predominantly orthopyroxene and olivine (mean diameter about 400 µm, up to 700 µm) sometimes poikilitically enclosing rounded to subrounded Ca-pyroxene grains. Accessories are merrillite and chlorapatite; opaque phases include chromite, troilite, kamacite, and schreibersite. No relict chondrules were observed. Plagioclase is absent in the section study. Grain boundaries are frequently decorated with iron oxides and hydroxides. Geochemistry: Olivine: Fa8.8±0.2 (Fa8.6-9.1, FeO/MnO=16±1, n=11); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs11.9±0.1Wo2.5±0.2 (Fs11.8-12.1Wo1.9-2.9, FeO/MnO=15±1, n=11); Ca-pyroxene: Fs5.3±0.3Wo43.7±1.2 (Fs4.7-5.9Wo40.5-45.3, FeO/MnO=10±1, n=11) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
