Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 6033 (NWA 6033) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2009 Classification: Ungrouped achondrite History: The meteorite was purchased from a Morrocan meteorite dealer on the mineral fair in St. Marie aux Mines, France. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock mostly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a microporphyritic texture composed of mostly 10 to 30 µm, rarely up to 400 µm sized subhedral to eudral olivine grains with interstitial mesostasis. Olivine typically shows compositional zoning with Mg-rich cores and more Fe-rich rims. Pyroxene is absent. Opaque phases are FeNi metal and FeS. Shock veins present. Geochemistry: Olivine: Fa14.4±3.3 (Fa9.3-21.4, FeO/MnO=70±9, n=15); mesostasis (wt%): SiO2: 67.4±0.5, Al2O3: 12.2±0.2, Na2O: 1.56±0.08, K2O: 1.10±0.03, CaO: 9.2±0.3, MgO: 2.65±0.10, FeO: 5.3±0.3, TiO2: 0.14±0.02, MnO: 0.13±0.03, Cr2O3: 0.43±0.09, N=8 Classification: Achondrite, ungrouped. This meteorite is a melt rock whose protolith, possibly an ordinary chondrite, cannot be determined. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
