Northwest Africa 14504 (NWA 14504)

Agadez, Niger

Find: 2017

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVox3)

History: (Ziyao Wang) Purchased by Ziyao Wang from Hamza Lharbi in Guelmim Jun. 2018.

Physical characteristics: (Ziyao Wang) 5200 g semi-circular, dark-black stone, on the surface chondrules and CAIs are recognizable.

Petrography: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) Well developed granular, porphyric olivine-pyroxene,and porphyric olivine chondrules (0.4-1.6 mm), CAIs (<3 mm) and AOAs (<2 mm) are embedded in a fine-grained dark opaque matrix (about 55 vol% matrix).

Geochemistry: (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart, P. Appel and B. Mader, Kiel) Olivine Fa5.3 (0.3-42.2; Fe/Mn=11-323, av. 55; n=42); pyroxene Fs2.5Wo2.0±0.2 (Fs0.8-8.5); n=9); feldspar An90Or<1 (n=1). Awaruite Ni=66.5, Co=2.0 (n=3); FeS Ni15 (n=1); (all wt%). Magnetic susceptibility (R. Bartoschewitz, Bart) log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.07. O-isotopes (A. Pack and T. Di Rocco, UGött): δ17O(‰) = 0.121, δ18O (‰) = 5.339, D’17O (0.528) = -2.691.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVoxA3). CVoxA group based on the Ni content of sulfides, Gattacceca et al. (2020).

Specimens: 20.5 g on deposit at UGött, Ziyao Wang holds the main mass, and 103 g with Bart. Polished thin sections with Bart + IfP
