Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7)

History: Meteorite (590 g) was found 14 October 2017 by the UrFU meteorite expedition-2017 in Chile (Pastukhovich A. Yu., Larionov M. Yu., Kruglikov N.A., Kolunin R.N.) near Calama.

Petrography: Classification (S. Berzin and K. Dugushkina, RAS-UB). Petrographic observation of a polished thin section revealed a fine-grained recrystallized texture and one relict chondrule. The meteorite consists of olivine 65%, orthopyroxene 15%, clinopyroxene 5-7%, plagioclase 10%, chromite 2-3%, troilite 3-4%, Fe-Ni-metal <0.5%. Also contains accessory apatite and ilmenite. Olivine grains are 50-300 µm in size, however large olivine grains up to 800 µm are present. Such olivine grains contain plagioclase, troilite and metal inclusions. One relict barred olivine (BO) chondrule was found in thin section. This chondrule has recrystallized boundaries and contains orthopyroxene and clinopyroxene. This indicates intense recrystallizaton. Optical features (sharp extinction of olivine) indicate that the sample is very weakly or not shocked (S1). There is oxidation of metal and troilite, and incipient alteration of mafic silicates.

Geochemistry: EDX analyses and electron microprobe analyses by S. Berzin, K. Dugushkina and I. Danilenko, RAS-UB, analyses Cu isotope composition by M. Chervyakovskaya, RAS-UB. The primary paragenesis includes olivine Fa31±1.5 (N=15), orthopyroxene En73±0.6Fs25±0.6Wo2±0.2 (N=12), plagioclase An20±0.7 (N=9), clinopyroxene En45±1.0Fs11±2.2Wo44±1.2 (N=9), chromite, ilmenite, chlor-apatite, troilite and FeNi-metal. Olivine contains MnO 0.4 wt.%. Plagioclase contains K2O 0.6-1.3 wt.%. The average composition of chromite (N=4): Cr2O3 53.39±0.43%, TiO2 3.77±0.08%, Al2O3 5.17±0.04%, FeO 33.30±0.35%, MgO 1.67±0.07%, MnO 0.43±0.07%, V2O3 0.71±0.03%, ZnO 0.33±0.07%. The average composition of FeNi-metal (N=5): Fe 49.4±1.5%, Ni 49.0±1.5 %, Co 1.99±0.16%.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7). This meteorite has a small content of FeNi-metal (<0.5%) compared to most LL chondrites.

Specimens: Main mass 580 g and 10 g cut-offs, plus a thin section, UrFU.
