Find: 2017 Oct 24

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Two fragments of meteorite (138.25 and 10.27 g) were found 24 October 2017 by the UrFU meteorite expedition-2017 in Chile (Pastukhovich A.Yu., Larionov M.Yu., Kruglikov N.A., Kolunin R.N.) near Chiu-Chiu.

Physical characteristics: Total mass is 148.52 g. The meteorite has roughly rounded shape. Exterior of the stone is desert polished. The surface and interior of the meteorite is light to dark-brown in color due to Fe-hydroxides. No fusion crust was observed.

Petrography: Classification (K. Dugushkina and S. Berzin, RAS-UB). The meteorite consists mostly of a fine-grained, inequigranula,r recrystallized matrix and chondrules (15%). Chondrite consists of olivine 60%, orthopyroxene 15%, clinopyroxene 7-10%, plagioclase 5-7%, chromite 1-2%, troilite 4-6%, Fe-Ni-metal 3-5%, with accessory apatite. Predominately porphyritic olivine (PO) and porphyritic olivine-pyroxene (POP) chondrules. Chondrules have vague boundaries. Minor oxide rims around metal and troilite, minor oxide veins (weathering grade - W1). Meteorite is very weakly shocked. There are no opaque melt veins or melt pockets. Shock stage is 1-2. A xenolith with a size of 1.5 × 2.5 mm and an angular shape was found, consisting mostly of orthopyroxene En81±0.5Fs18±0.4Wo1±0.3 (N=12) with rounded inclusions of olivine (Fa 20±0.3%) and a small amount of mesostasis. The mesostasis is 5-7 vol% and composed of plagioclase and clinopyroxene.

Geochemistry: Clinopyroxene En51±1.4Fs15±0.1Wo41±1.5 (N=7), plagioclase An16±0.04 (N=12), chromite, apatite, troilite, kamacite (Ni 5.8-6.5 wt%). The composition of chromite: Cr2O3 58.4%, TiO2 2.7%, Al2O3 6.04%, FeO 27.7%, MgO 4.7%, SiO2 0.5%. The average composition of orthopyroxene from xenolith (N=12): SiO2 56.4±0.2%, MgO 30.6±0.3%, FeO 11.9±0.2%, MnO 0.5±0.1%, CaO 0.6±0.1%, Cr2O3 ?0.1%.

Classification: (K. Dugushkina, RAS-UB) H4, ordinary chondrite.

Specimens: 129. 32 g in 2 samples, plus 19.2 g cut-off and thin section, UrFU
