El Médano 465 (EM 465) 24°51’S, 70°32’W Antofagasta, Chile Find: 2019 Jan 10 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) Physical characteristics: Single brown stone. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with well-defined chondrules (average apparent diameter 200±80 µm, n=26) and CAIs (to 600 µm) set in abundant (31 vol%) fine-grained iron-rich matrix. Opaque minerals are mostly kamacite. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa27.1±16.5, range Fa4.8-53.1, Fa PMD = 54%, Cr2O3 0.08±0.04 (n=25). Low-Ca pyroxene Fs1.5±0.1Wo1.5±0.8 (n=7). Ca-pyroxene Fs33.1Wo51.0 (n=1). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3). Likely paired with El Médano 216. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
