Northeast Africa 019 (NEA 019)

Purchased: 2019 Nov

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4/5)

History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in November 2019 from a Libyan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Some well-formed magnetite-bearing chondrules occur within a relatively coarse grained matrix containing Cr-magnetite, pentlandite and secondary barite. A tiny ~150 nm nugget of sperrylite was confirmed in one pentlandite grain.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa33.8±0.2, range Fa33.6-34.0, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs28.6±1.4Wo0.7±0.2, range Fs27.4-29.8Wo0.6-1.1, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs17.7Wo34.4), augite (Fs9.6±0.6Wo46.9±0.1, N = 2), plagioclase (An58.2Or1.6; An93.3Or0.1; N = 2), magnetite (Cr2O3 = 4.6 wt.%. 4.8 wt.%, N = 2).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4/5).

Specimens: 5.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
