Northwest Africa 8319 (NWA 8319)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2014 Feb

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4)

History: Purchased by D. Pitt in February 2014 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Separated, well-formed, granular chondrules (mean 1.3±0.6 mm) containing abundant Cr-bearing magnetite in a finer grained matrix. Magnetite is partly altered to reddish brown hydroxides.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa31.1-31.3, FeO/MnO = 101-102, N = 3), orthopyroxene (Fs26.1-27.3Wo0.8-0.7, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs24.9Wo7.2), augite (Fs9.3Wo44.6).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4).

Specimens: 24 g including one polished thin section at UWB. The remaining material is held by DPitt.
