Northwest Africa 14032 (NWA 14032)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK6)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in March, 2021.

Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark brownish to reddish interior and is largely composed of fine-grained recrystallized matrix dominated by Fe-rich olivine. Chondrules are only rarely encountered and poorly defined. Minor phases include intermediate plagioclase, low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, and FeS. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; metal was not detected. The meteorite contains abundant cracks filled with secondary calcite.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa29.0±0.2 (Fa28.6-29.2, FeO/MnO=96±9; NiO=0.41±0.06 wt%, n=11); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs26.2±0.6Wo0.8±0.2 (Fs24.8-26.9Wo0.7-1.2, n=8); Ca-pyroxene: Fs8.3±0.6Wo47.6±0.5 (Fs7.6-9.3Wo46.8-48.4, n=8); feldspar: An22.9-77.6Ab22.2-73.6Or0.2-3.5, n=6; magnetite contains 5.3±0.1 wt% Cr2O3, n=4
