Northwest Africa 15060 (NWA 15060)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2022 Feb

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK6)

History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang and Juan Chen in February 2022 from a dealer in Guelmim, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Largely recrystallized assemblage with equilibrated mafic silicates. Some vague chondrule outlines are discernible, but triple grain junction textures are absent. Accessory minerals are Cr-magnetite, plagioclase (of variable composition), pentlandite and minor secondary Fe oxides.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa32.3±1.3, range Fa31.2-34.1, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs26.3±1.1Wo1.7±1.3, range Fs25.3-27.7Wo0.7-3.2, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs20.3Wo17.6), augite (Fs11.0±1.3Wo43.5±2.5, range Fs10.0-11.9Wo45.3-41.7, N = 2), plagioclase (Ab48.0-57.0An49.6-41.0Or2.4-2.1; Ab72.2An23.6Or4.3; N = 3), magnetite (Cr2O3 4.0-4.5 wt.%, N = 3).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK6).

Specimens: 14,5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang and Mr. J. Chen.
