Reckling Peak 17075 (RKP 17075) 76°14.945’ S, 158°21.196’ E Antarctica, Antarctica Find: 2018 Jan 22 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM1) History: Revovered during the 2017-18 PNRA expedition Physical characteristics: The total mass of the sample is 3.3 g. The fusion crust is partly preserved. The sample has a dark appearance and minor evaporite phases on the surface. Petrography: (UPisa). Chondrule pseudomorph abundance 15 vol.%; matrix ?80 vol.%, opaques minerals 2 vol.% (almost exclusively sulfides). Chondrule pseudomorph mean diameter is 190±150 µm. Only one refractory inclusion (CAI) pseudomorph has been identified (~200 µm). Chondrules are all pseudomorphs are set in a dark, fine-grained matrix. Hydrated phyllosilicates are the dominant phase (inferred by low totals). No anhydrous silicates have been detected. Metal is very rare. There are no significant shock features, only tiny sulfides blebs inside a chondrule pseudomorph, and irregular fractures. No significant signs of terrestrial weathering are present. The mineral composition is dominated by hydrated phyllosilicates (cronstedtite-antigorite), carbonates (dolomite, calcite), sulfides (pentlandite, intermediate Ni-rich sulfides, and a Fe-Mg sulfide likely tochilinite), plus accessory chromite, magnetite, ilmenite, apatite, kamacite, taenite.
