Grove Mountains 021865 (GRV 021865)        72° 46' 31"S,  75° 20' 15"E

Antarctica

Found: 20 January 2003

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: The meteorite was found on the Moraine IV in Grove Mountains by Y. Ju. It is a fragment with some black fusion crust. Small light gray chondrules in dark matrix are present. The meteorite weighs 1.28 g.

Petrography: (G. Wang and D. Wang, GIGCAS). Chondrules range from 500 μm to 1000 μm in diameter. Aqueous alteration is highly developed in both chondrules and matrix. A few spinel-rich inclusions (<1000 μm) were found. Some chondrules have accretionary rims, and chondrule/matrix ratio is about 5.

Geochemistry: (G. Wang and D. Wang, GIGCAS). Low Ca-pyroxene contains low FeO (Fs1.1-1.7Wo0.9 - 5.6), olivine is highly heterogeneous within and among chondrules, with Fa = 0.6-51.7 mol%.

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3).

Specimens: All of the sample mass and a polished thin section are on deposit at PRIC.
