Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

Petrography: (A. Patchen, UTenn) This meteorite contains CAIs, AOAs, and chondrules each up to 2 mm in maximum dimension. Matrix constitutes 20-30% of the sample and is primarily fine grained (<10 μm) olivine. Metal, primarily found in the matrix (<1%), is predominately awaruite(Ni3Fe) with a few grains of kamacite (<6.8 wt% Ni) observed. Other minerals observed in the matrix include andradite, magnetite, calcite, barite, hedenbergite, chromite, pentlandite, and troilite. CAIs and AOAs occur from nearly spherical objects to highly irregular in shape. Phases observed within CAIs include melilite, spinel, perovskite, hibonite, diopside, plagioclase, olivine, nepheline, hedenbergite, sodalite, calcite, and barite. Olivine in AOAs and chondrules is zoned, being more fayalitic along grain and object boundaries. Chondrules include barred olivine, granular olivine and/or pyroxene, and porphyritic olivine and/or pyroxene types. Pyroxene in chondrules is predominately enstatite, with minor clinopyroxene. Calcite is present throughout the sample, often surrounding chondrules and within CAIs. Barite occurs scattered throughout, usually as <10 μm grains.

Geochemistry: Mineral Compositions and geochemistry: All analyses by EMP at UTenn. All values are in weight percent. Olivine in the matrix is Fa46.4±2.2 (n=28). Olivine in chondrules, AOAs, and CAIs vary from forsteritic cores (Fa0.3) to fayalitic rims up to about Fa40 with an average of Fa7.8±11.1 (n=146). Chondrule enstatite has a smaller range of compositions (Fs1.2 ±0.4Wo2.7 ±1.6, n=20). Clinopyroxenes are diopside Fs1.0±0.4Wo46.0 ±3.8 (n=33) ranging from low Al2O3 (2-3%) up to Al2O3 =11%. Plagioclase is of low abundance and is An80-89 in chondrules and An96-99 in CAIs. Metals are predominately awaruite (Ni = 68-74, Co = 1.4-2.7, Fe = 28-31) in both matrix and included objects. Spinel is found in all CAIs and is often zoned. Zonation of CAI spinels is seen as Fe enrichment toward the rims of grains (core Al2O3 = 71.1, MgO = 28.6, FeO = 0.08, V2O3 = 0.3; rim Al2O3 = 63.6, MgO = 13.8, FeO = 21.4, V2O3 = 0.3). Chromite (Cr#76-82) and magnetite are also present in matrix and non-CAI objects. Additional CAI minerals include melilite (Ak4-13), perovskite, hibonite (Al2O3 = 89.4, CaO = 8.6, TiO2 = 1.2, MgO = 0.6, FeO = 0.6), hedenbergite (Fs48.4Wo50.6).
