Northwest Africa 13952 (NWA 13952)

Purchased: 2021 Feb 1

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: Purchased over the Internet from anonymous finder; was shipped from Spain.

Physical characteristics: This hand-sized stone appears to be covered with small regmaglypts, but it is devoid of fusion-crust, and instead is desert-wind polished clearly exposing the interior showing the outlines of chondrules and CAI.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Sample contains abundant chondrules (Av. 0.9 mm, up to 3 mm) and CAIs set in a fine-grained opaque matrix. Accesory phases include hedenbergite, magnetite, and pentlandite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa21.2±17.8, range Fa1.6-45.6, n=40), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs2.4±1.8Wo1.0±0.2, range Fs0.8-6.5Wo0.9-1.3, n=10).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3).

Specimens: 35.6 g at UCLA; main mass with Verish.
