Northwest Africa 13953 (NWA 13953) Algeria Purchased: 2021 Feb 1 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Purchased over the Internet from anonymous finder; was shipped from Spain. Physical characteristics: A dark browish-black, ovoid stone similar to an avocado and with an exterior to match - a pitted, relict fusion-crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Sample contains abundant chondrules (Av. 1.0 mm, up to 2.5 mm) and CAIs set in a fine-grained opaque matrix. Accesory phases include magnetite and pentlandite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa22.4±15.4, range Fa0.6-51.4, n=35), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs1.9±0.2Wo0.7±0.1, range Fs1.6-2.2Wo0.7-1.0, n=11). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: 21.8 g at UCLA; main mass with Verish. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
