Château-Renard
History (P.-M. Pelé, meteor-center.com): On June 12, 1841, between one and two in the afternoon, a strong explosion was heard at Château-Renard. Many people saw in the sky a meteor moving from the southwest to the northeast; this could be verified by the orientation of the holes formed by the impacts of the stones. Near Triguères, two boys saw meteorites falling at a distance of about 500 m; however, they were recovered two days later (near 47°55’10.5’’N, 2°59’22.9’’E). The place of fall is reported as "in the field of Bourgonnière, between the farms of Les Thézars and Les Petits-Marteaux, near the Ru de Villargis, town of Triguères." Another stone was mentioned in a meadow called Tainières, but the location is not shown on any maps. The recovered stones left two circular holes about 30 cm in diameter in the ground. One of them weighed 15 kg; the second broke into many fragments (about fifty) from 500 g to 3 kg (a report indicates 5 kg for the largest piece). The total mass of the meteorite is estimated at 30 kg.
