Northwest Africa 14011 (NWA 14011)

Mali

Purchased: 2020 Dec

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

History: Found in Mali and purchased by Ziyao Wang in December 2020 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Monomict diogenite breccia with very sparse matrix. Composed almost entirely of orthopyroxene with accessory Ti-free, V-bearing chromite, troilite, rare silica polymorph and rare Ni-free Fe metal.

Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs26.4-28.0Wo1.5-2.2, FeO/MnO = 26-30, N = 5).

Classification: Diogenite (monomict matrix-poor breccia).

Specimens: 51.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. Z. Wang.
