DISCOVERY OF THE YAMATO (a), ANTARCTICA, STONY METEORITE Name: YAMATO (a) Place of find: Yamato Mountains, Antarctica. Near 71°50'S, 36°15'E. Date of find: December 21, 1969 Class and type: Stone. Enstatite chondrite. Number of individual specimens: 1 Total weight: 715 g Circumstances of find: The Japanese Expedition Team casually collected many stones and brought them back to Japan. Among these stones were 9 that were identified as meteorite specimens. This particular individual was studied at the Max-Planck-Institut fur Chemie, Mainz, Germany.
