Found 2004 January 1

Enstatite chondrite (EL4)

A complete, fusion-crusted stone weighing 20.66 g was found by a PNRA team on the Frontier Mountain blue ice field. Mineralogy and classification (A. Burroni and L. Folco, MNA-SI): chondrules are readily delineated with mean diameter of 670 m; enstatite is commonly monoclinic and has homogeneous composition Fs0.8 Wo0.4; traces of olivine, Fa0.1 are present. Opaque minerals include troilite, kamacite (Ni = 6.13, Si = 0.67 wt.%), schreibersite and alabandite (Mn = 76.8, Fe = 20.1 and Mg = 3.05 wt.%). Shock stage is S1, weathering grade is W1. Specimens: main mass and one thin section, MNA-SI.
