Northwest Africa 5669 (NWA 5669) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2008 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock partly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: Fine-grained brecciated basalt showing a recrystallized, granoblastic texture with sparse up to 3 mm sized coarse-grained basaltic clasts. Predominant minerals are exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase 10-30 µm in size. Minor phases are silica, chromite, ilmenite, and FeS. No metallic iron has been detected. The meteorite contains some shock melt veins. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs65.3±0.5Wo4.6±0.7 (Fs64.6-66.4Wo3.4-5.5, FeO/MnO=29-32, n=13); Ca-pyroxene: Fs32.8±0.7Wo41.5±0.6 (Fs31.7-33.7Wo40.4-42.5, FeO/MnO=32-35, n=11); calcic plagioclase: An89.3±0.6 (An88.0-90.2, n=13) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
