Northwest Africa 13659 (NWA 13659) Morocco Find: 2017 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Purchased in 2017 at the Tucson Gem Show by Matthew Stream from a seller in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Single stone with weathered fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, FSU) Specimen is composed of randomly oriented, acicular calcic plagioclase laths (80±30µm), low-Ca pyroxene, pigeonite, high-Ca pyroxene, chromite (some containing up to 3.2 wt% TiO2), and SiO2-rich glass. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs60.1±5.1Wo3.1±0.9, range Fs51.8-67.9Wo2.1-4.4, FeO/MnO=28±2, n=7), Pigeonite (Fs47.8±9.7Wo13.0±5.7, range Fs34.2-73.6Wo6.4-22.3, FeO/MnO=27±3, n=30), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs51.9±11.4Wo30.2±4.6, range Fs38.8-59.5Wo26.6-35.3, FeO/MnO=30±5, n=3), Calcic Plagioclase (An89.6±0.9, range An87.6-91.3, n=25).
