Talsint 002 32°52’26.7’’N, 3°34’43.4’’W Morocco Find: 11 October 2020 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Three fragments weighing 9250, 70 and 50 g, respectively, have been recovered. They are almost completely covered by shiny black fusion crust and expose a fresh grayish interior. Petrography: The meteorite is a polymict breccia composed of up to 4 mm sized basaltic, black impact melt, and mineral clasts set into a fine-grained clastic matrix. Mineral phases are predominantly exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase with grains sizes of about 50 to 800 µm. Minor phases include silica, ilmenite, chromite, and troilite. No metallic iron has been detected. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs60.1±1.4Wo2.3±1.2 (Fs57.2-61.1Wo1.5-5.0, FeO/MnO=27-29, n=6); Ca-pyroxene: Fs29.1±0.9Wo40.5±1.1 (Fs27.4-30.0Wo39.3-42.7, FeO/MnO=29-31, n=6); calcic plagioclase: An90.5±0.9 (An89.2-91.8, n=6) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
