Northwest Africa 13787 (NWA 13787) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in early 2021. Physical characteristics: Grayish to slightly brownish rock with some patches of fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is an unbrecciated coarse-grained eucrite predominantly composed of exsolved pyroxene and often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase with grain sizes of up to 1 mm. Minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, ilmenite, and zircon. No metallic Fe has been found. Some cracks are filled by secondary calcite. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs57.1±0.3Wo5.4±1.0 (Fs56.5-57.3Wo3.4-6.2, FeO/MnO=29-32, n=5); Ca-pyroxene: Fs26.7±0.3Wo43.2±0.2 (Fs26.4-27.1Wo42.9-43.4, FeO/MnO=29-31, n=5); calcic plagioclase: An90.3±2.3 (An85.8-93.2, n=6) Classification: Eucrite | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
