Northwest Africa 14519 (NWA 14519) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Purchased by Habib Naji in June 2021 from a Mauritanian dealer. Physical characteristics: Single stone dark brown, smooth sandblasted surface. Some orange oxidation on a broken surface was observed. Petrography: (A. Ross and C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe and reflected light microscope examination of a polished mount shows a heavily shocked assembly of recrystallized cumulate clasts, irregular recrystallized patches of plagioclase, and numerous vesiculated melt veins. Ubiquitous opaque phases consisting of ilmenite, Cr-spinel, and Fe-sulfide are scattered throughout. Silica is also ubiquitous. Geochemistry: (A. Ross, UNM) Pigeonite Fs46.6±4.7Wo13.1±4.5, Fe/Mn=28±2 n=9; augite Fs28.5±0.5Wo41.1±0.3, Fe/Mn=32±2 n=3; plagioclase An88.3±0.7Ab11.2±0.7, n=6. Classification: Brecciated cumulate eucrite. Specimens: 41.5 g on deposit at UNM, Habib Naji holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
