Writeup from MB 110:

Yiwu 001        44°01’3"N, 94°14’5"E

Xinjiang, China

Find: 2017 May 13

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

Petrography: The rock is a basaltic eucrite, mineralogically made up of pigeonite and plagioclase with minor amounts of silica, augite, troilite, and ilmenite. Two lithologies including coarse (35 vol.%) and fine phase (65 vol.%) have been identified in the rock. According to the mineral particles crossing the boundary between the coarse and fine phase, we suggest that the samples are originally igneous rather than brecciated. The coarse part is mainly composed of pigeonite (~30 vol.%, size from 50 to 1200 μm) and plagioclase (~60 vol.%, size from 50 to 2500 μm), while the fine part is mainly composed of pigeonite (~45 vol.%, size from 20 to 300 μm) and plagioclase (~50%, size from 20 to 300 μm).

Geochemistry: Ca-pyroxene Fs29.5±1.1Wo42.3±1.0, FeO/MnO 36.0±1.4 (n=4). Plagioclase An88.3±1.0 (n=6)
