Northwest Africa 12468 (NWA 12468)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2015 Jun

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

History: Purchased in june 2015 at Saint Marie aux Mines mineral show

Physical characteristics: Dark-brown crusted stone. Cut surface reveals light-gray interior.

Petrography: Igneous rock with brecciated texture, metal-rich clasts. Main minerals are pyroxene and plagioclase. Accessories minerals are silica polymorph, metal, polycristalline troilite and chromite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs46.3±6.2Wo9.3±5.8 (n=7), rangeFs35.9-54.7Wo21.3-1.8, FeO/MnO=33.6±2.2. Plagioclase An93.9±0.5Ab5.8±0.6Or0.3±0.0 (n=3).

Classification: Achondrite (eucrite)

Specimens: 5.13 g and a polished section at CEREGE. Main mass with Pierre-Marie Pelé.
