Tindouf 006 27°22’26.6"N, 7°46’15.3"W Tindouf, Algeria Find: 2020 Feb Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: Many pieces of the meteorite totaling 310 g were found February 2020 in the Tindouf area (Algeria) and purchased from a meteorite dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock with some light clasts. Petrography: The meteorite is a brecciated eucrite composed of up to several mm-sized basaltic clasts and abundant mineral clasts set into a fine-grained matrix. Besides abundant plagioclase and pyroxenes, grains of metal, Fe-sulfide, ilmenite, and an SiO2-phase were found as accessory minerals. Geochemistry: The mean olivine composition is Fa22. The rock contains low-Ca and Ca-pyroxene. Low-Ca pyroxene is Fs57.9±2.0Wo2.9±1.4 (range Fs53.1-62.8Wo1.8-8.0; mean Fe/Mn=31.6; n=21) and the Ca-pyroxene has Fs25.9±1.1Wo41.3±1.1 (range Fs23.8-28.3Wo38.4-42.8; mean Fe/Mn=28.8; n=14). Calcic plagioclase has a composition of An88.2±2.0 (range An82.6-91.2, n=22). Classification: Eucrite breccia | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
