Northwest Africa 14418 (NWA 14418)

Purchased: 2020 Dec

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite)

History: Found by Saadbouh Mohamed Ali and later acquired from M. Alfriri by the Rock & Co. Society (Bouhayek/Maugein/LUI) in Nouakchott in December 2020.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Brecciated igneous rock with lithic clasts with variolitic and ophitic textures. Main minerals are exsolved pyroxene and plagioclase. Accessory minerals: ilmenite, silica polymorph, chromite, metal, troilite.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene Fs59.8±0.5Wo2.1±1.1 (n=5). Ca-pyroxene exsolution Fs25.4Wo45.0 (n=1). Pyroxene FeO/MnO = 30.0±1.9 (n=6). Plagioclase An86.9±1.6Ab12.7±1.5Or0.5±0.1 (n=3).
