Writeup from MB 105:
Northwest Africa 10476 (NWA 10476) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2015 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, cumulate) History: The meteorite was purchased from the Moroccan meteorite dealer Med Lamine Ahmed. Physical characteristics: Two small individuals partly covered with fusion crust were recovered from the north-African Sahara. Petrography: The meteorite displays a light-grayish interior and is dominantly composed of large blocky low-Ca pyroxene and plagioclase. The mm-sized pyroxene grains often contain blobby augite. Minor phases include chromite and SiO2 polymorphs. The meteorite is highly shocked, i.e., plagioclase is partly converted to maskelynite. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs35.2±0.2Wo2.6±0.1 (Fs35.2-35.9Wo2.4-2.7, n=16, FeO/MnO=28-30), Ca-pyroxene: Fs15.2±0.1Wo43.1±0.3 (Fs15-15.4Wo42.6-43.6, n=15, FeO/MnO=30-31); calcic plagioclase: An84.9±0.8 (An83.6-86.2, n=25) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
