Northwest Africa 11734 (NWA 11734)

Purchased: 2017

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, melt breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish individual with some patches of black fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a eucrite-melt breccia composed of up to 1 cm sized light colored basaltic clasts set into dark recrystallized shock melt matrix. Dominant minerals in the clasts are exolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, ilmenite, troilite, chromite, and barite. No metallic Fe has been found.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene Fs60.8±1.0Wo2.8±0.5 (Fs59.1-62.1Wo2.1-3.3, n=16, FeO/MnO=30-35); Ca-pyroxene: Fs27.6±1.5Wo42.9±1.5 (Fs25.8-32.2Wo37.9-44.2, n=23, FeO/MnO=29-37); calcic plagioclase: An88.2±2.4 (An83.3-91.0, n=21)
