Writeup from MB 104:

Northwest Africa 10422 (NWA 10422)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2015

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Purchased by Adam Aaronson in Morocco, 2015.

Physical characteristics: Fusion crusted exterior. Broken surface reveals a typical HED breccia with light and dark-gray clasts.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows a mildly brecciated texture with approximately 60% pyroxene and 35% plagioclase. Many pyroxenes show distinct exsolution lamellae. Low-Ni iron metal, troilite, Ti-chromite, ilmenite and silica were observed. Some fine shock melt veins are present.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Muttik, UNM) Low-Ca pyroxene Fs65.5±0.5Wo2.1±0.3, Fe/Mn=32±1, n=6; high-Ca pyroxene Fs29.6±0.7Wo42.7±0.4, Fe/Mn=33±1, n=6; plagioclase An88.1±0.5, n=3.

Classification: Eucrite monomict. Equilibrated, with clear compositional separation of low-Ca and high-Ca pyroxene.

Specimens: 9 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, Aaronson holds the main mass.
