Northwest Africa 14076 (NWA 14076) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jan Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in January 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Relatively fine-grained breccia containing sparse subophitic eucrite clasts, but dominated by related crystalline debris, set in a fine grained matrix. Accessory phases are silica polymorph, chromite, troilite and ilmenite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene host (Fs58.0-59.4Wo1.5-3.0, FeO/MnO = 31-33, N = 11), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs24.4-30.0Wo44.1-37.4, FeO/MnO = 28-31, N = 6), plagioclase (An74.2-90.1Or0.2-0.9, N = 3). Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia). Specimens: 21.5 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
