Northwest Africa 14272 (NWA 14272)

Purchased: 2018 Dec

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Purchased by Albert Jambon in December 2018 from a dealer in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Monomict breccia composed of granulitic-textured eucrite clasts within a fine grained recrystallized matrix. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, troilite, Ti-chromite, zircon and baddeleyite.

Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene hosts (Fs60.2-61.3Wo2.1-2.8, FeO/MnO = 29-33, N = 5), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs28.0-30.7Wo38.3-39.7, FeO/MnO = 31-32, N = 5), plagioclase (An83.3-88.6Or0.9-0.6, N = 3).

Classification: Eucrite (monomict breccia, granulitic).

Specimens: 28.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. A. Jambon.
